Modern Religious Experience: Reflection #4: Buddhist Meditation

Modern Religious Experience: Reflection #4: Buddhist Meditation: "Spend 20 mintues in a silent meditation; a place you won't be disturbed, your own 'fig tree' as was Buddha's inspiration. In those 20 mintue..."

Clearing my mind while meditating is extremely challenging for me. I couldn't seem to understand how to seek life's truths while not thinking about anything. Controlling the mind isn't as easy as it sounds either. My mind kept wandering off to different places. I wasn't able to concentrate on clearing the mind and attaining right thoughts, mindfulness, or concentration. My mind went from thinking about the cold weather to tests and homework and then back to the weather and facebook. Once I started to think about many different things it became harder to control my mind. Because I could not clear my mind I was not inspired at all. I feel like the only time you can clear you mind is when your asleep, and the only way to seek life's truths is to think. There for I do not believe meditation helps a person seek life's truths. Nor can you attain right thoughts mindfulness and concentration be meditating.
