Modern Religious Experience: Reflection #3- Gandhi: Hindu and Activist: "In class, your small groups went over movie questions about the content in Gandhi. You should know who each of the main characters are and t..."
I believe Gandhi's idea of Hinduism was sacrifice and Ahimsa. Throughout the whole movie you see Gandhi sacrificing all of his possessions. One example is his clothing. He insisted that the people give up the clothing that was made by the British. He encouraged Indians to make their own clothes another example for sacrifice is that he gave up his marriage. He tried to give up his marriage 3times and failed. Then he made a vow to himself and which he never broke since. Gandhi was a strong believer of Ahimsa, non-violence. He strongly disagreed to violence. He said "an eye for and eye only ends up making the world blind." This shows how he believed the Indians should fight the war for independence peacefully. He did not accept people getting back at the British. When the violence arouse during the move of Hindus and Muslims, Gandhi fasted in order to make the fighting stop.
“A man who was completely innocent, offered himself as a sacrifice for the good of others, including his enemies, and became the ransom of the world. It was a perfect act.” is one of many quotes that Gandhi has said. It is also a quote that exemplify the was Gandhi lived out his faith. In this quote Gandhi is the man who is completely innocent and the enemies are the British. Gandhi has offered himself as a sacrifice to both the enemies, British, and the Indians. He has sacrificed himself for the independence of his country. He didn't only fight for the Hindus but also the Muslims. Also he worked hard to move the British out of the country without much fighting. Gandhi acted as a bridge between the two by sacrificing himself. By taking the role of the bridge between the two, Gandhi has created a perfect act.
